From:chinadaily  Writer:  Date:2014-10-24
In September, Lintao county, in Gansu province held the 2014 China Lintao’s international symposium on the Majiayao archaeological reserve. It drew in a crowd of around 200 experts and scholars from home and abroad, to get together making keynote speeches, visiting the historical sites and celebrating the 90th anniversary of finding the Majiayao site.

The Majiayao site is well-known for painted pottery made by Chinese ancestors during the prehistoric period. The site was found in the 1820s.

The symposium themed on developing and protecting the Majiayao culture, with the participants discussing the features and functions of Majiayao culture in Chinese civilization, the birth of the culture in the upstream region along the Yellow River, and how to protect the Majiayao site and take advantages of its cultural resources.

China Lintao’s international symposium on the Majiayao site was co- hosted by the Institute of Chinese Archaeology, Gansu province’s Archaeology Institute, and Lintao county government.
