Cong Dexin

Cong Dexin received his B.A. from the Archaeology Program of the Department of History at Jilin University in 1985. Since then, he has been working in the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He served as the Deputy Director of the Research Department from 1999-2001. He was a visiting scholar at the Kachihara Archaeological Institute, Nara Prefecture, Japan in 2001-2002. He is currently Deputy Director of the Center for the Frontier Archaeology and a Research Fellow of the Institute of Archaeology, CASS. He also serves as an advisor for master degree graduate students of the Graduate Scholl, CASS.

Major Archaeological Excavations and Research Projects

Dexin CONG participated in the excavation of the Xinglongwa site (Aohan Banner, Inner Mongolia) and the Ye City site (Hebei Province). He conducted archaeological surveys and excavations in Xinjiang Hui Autonomous Region from 1986 to 1992. He participated in the excavations of the Qunbake cemetery (Luntai, 1986-1987) and the Wumachang site (Qitai, 1991-1992). During this period, he also joined the archaeological surveys at the northern side of the Tianshan Mountain and in eastern Xinjiang. 

Since 1992, Dexin Cong has participated in the archaeological excavations and surveys in the Danjiangkou area (Hubei Province), Guan County (Shandong Province), and the Wushan County (Chongqing Province). 

Research Specialty: Archaeology of the Xinjiang area of the pre-Han Dynasty period.    Archaeology of Han Dynasty pictorial arts.

On-going Projects: Archaeological cultures in Xinjiang before the tenth century A.D.
