Executive Vice President Wang Weiguang of Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS) inspected archaeological field achievements in Chefeng region
July 31st; invited by Wang Zhonghe, the the Secretary of Chifeng Municipal Committee (of the CPC), Wang Weiguang, executive Vice President of CASS inspected Chifeng region, Inner Mongolia. In the afternoon, Wang Weiguang went to Chifeng Institute to visit the exhibition of "Enter the Jade Dragon's homeland—Achievement of archaeological excavation from Neolithic to Bronze Age in Chifeng region", jointly hold by Inner Mongolia’s first fieldwork term of IA CASS and Chifeng institute’s international research centre on Hongshan Culture. In which they examined the sample of ceramic and stone artifacts in storehouse, and inquired about the condition of staff's research work and life. Chifeng Institute’ Party secretary Gao Jinxiang, President Li Chunlin accompanied the visit, and professor Liu Guoxiang gave the interpretation.
Inner Mongolia’s first fieldwork term of IA CASS were established in 1959, which is one of the earlier archaeological teams established by the institute of archaeology, CASS. Having gone 50 extra years, the Inner Mongolia’s first fieldwork term has developed a lot of archaeological investigation and excavation centered on Chifeng region, and has obtained a series of important achievements. Chifeng Institute is the only full-time undergraduate institution in Chifeng region. In October 15th, 2003 they formally signed a cooperation agreement, in the principle of "complementary advantages and academic win-win". Inner Mongolia’s first fieldwork term’s station located in Chifeng institute and jointly established the international research center on Hongshan culture. In July, 2004 they successfully conducted the first international Symposium of research on Hongshan culture. In 2010, in cooperation with interrelated academic organizations, they convened an academic conference titled "China's Jade culture tradition and civilizations society". Since both sides have been cooperating together, scholars from Harvard university, Yale, Stanford, Pittsburgh University, and Washington University; Canada's Toronto University; England's Cambridge and Oxford universities; Japan's Tokyo University, Waseda University, Kyoto University, Northeastern University and Tohoku Gakuin University; South Korea's Seoul University; the Mongolian National University etc. visited Chifeng institute, and organized investigations and cooperation projects. Through academic exchange, they broadened sight and improved academic research level, while also greatly enhance their fame popularity both in China and abroad.
Wang Weiguang spoke highly of the fruitful results of the field archaeology research conducted by the scholars of several generations from institute of archaeology CASS for over 50 years in Chifeng region. He vigorously expressed his support for the successful cooperation pattern between institute of archaeology and Chifeng Institute, together with the request for a thorough launch of research on the Hongshan culture and 5000 years’ Chinese civilization, which will start new phase of archaeological field work in Chifeng region. （Translator: Marie Kerwin）
