From:  Writer:  Date:2008-07-17

The World Heritage Committee finished updating UNESCO's World Heritage List on Tuesday with the addition of 27 cultural and natural sites.

The 32nd session of the committee opened on July 3, and will close on July 10. A total of 43 cultural and natural sites from 41countries were presented for evaluation on Sunday. And on Tuesday it was announced that 27 have been approved. These are 19 cultural sites and 8 natural sites.

Tulou, the unique residential architecture in Fujian Province, and Mount Sanqingshan National Park in Jiangxi Province in China were added to the World Heritage List.

During the morning session on Tuesday, the Baha' Holy Places in Haifa and Western Galilee, Israel, and Chief Roi Mata's Domain in Vanuatu were the final two sites to be added. The World Heritage List now includes 878 sites.

The World Heritage Committee meets once a year, discussing whether a property is inscribed on the World Heritage List, and examining the protection of sites on the list.
